Frequently Asked Questions

Pick-up and Return service

  • Some time ago I've applied for this service, but I still hane't heard anything. Did you guys forget me?
No, we keep an accurate list of our customers who want to have their bike be picked up. This free service is being used a lot. This sometimes causes waiting times. Because we have this service throughout the whole Netherlands, it is necessary to transport multiple bikes per ride. Driving to Den Helder for a single bike  is not efficient. Therefore we plan each ride to a number of customers who live in a certain region together. This sometimes takes some time. But rest assured, everyone who has signed up on time is guaranteed to be picked up. Even if the pick up will fall outside of the free periode because of the many customers that use this service.

Oil

  • How much, and what type oil should be used in my motorcycle?
    See Lubricating List.
  • How should I check the oil level?

Motor upright. Remove dipstick and clean it. Put the dipstick back, do not screw it in. Level should be approximately midway between min and max. Our experience is that, in a "wet-sump" carter like Guzzi, there is little difference between the oil level of a hot or cold engine.

  • How much oil goes in the front fork?
For forks with the separate damper (after the V7 Guzzi's to the California 1100): Stanchions 34 to 38 mm: 70 ml/ATF Dextron per leg 40 mm Stanchions (Cal 3 and 1100): 150 ml/ATF Dextron per leg. Later types have all oil damped forks. Each type has a different amount of oil needed.

Valve Clearance

  • What is the correct valve clearance for my Guzzi?
    See Lubricating List.

Tire Pressure

  • What is the proper tire pressure for my Guzzi?
For virtually all Moto Guzzi's applies:
For band             2,4 bar (34.8 psi)
Rear tire             2,8 bar (40.6 psi)

Color codes

  • What is the color code of the lacquer of my Guzzi?
Guzzi has never released any color codes to their dealers. However, we can spray all parts in common colors. There is no default color used. Each color is created on the spot. The results when finished is not to distinguishable to the original.

MotoPlat ignition

  • My engine runs on 1 cylinder from time to time. What can cause this?
Running on 1 cylinder can have many causes. We have come across this complaint quite often in the years that a Moto Guzzi's was equiped with a motoplat-ignition (V50 V65 Florida, NATO, California 3 and Mille GT). This ignition is identified with the 2 aluminum boxes (6x6x3cm) that control the ignition coils. The boxes quit working and sometimes costs ± 200 euro/piece. Our advice is to not invest anymore in this system , but to switch to a modern digital ignition system like Silent Hektik.

Other brands

  • Can I also bring my Honda/Yamaha/different brand to you for maintenance?
Unfortunately, that's not an option. Our workshop is fully equipped for the bikes of Moto Guzzi and Triumph Motorcycles. All of our equipment, the tools and the knowledge of our mechanics is specific for this. In addition to that, we also only have parts of these brands in stock.
